ABOUT ME
After earning my Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2015, I found myself taking a detour into marketing at a small beauty startup in San Francisco, California. With zero formal experience but a college level understanding of psychology, I dove into creating growth campaigns and social media posts. It was a thrilling, fast-paced world, but something was missing. One day, while volunteering at my old high school, I had an epiphany: “I like working in education.” It wasn’t a new discovery, growing up in church ministry and doing volunteer work had already sparked a love for guiding others, but now I saw it with fresh eyes. Soon, I was teaching high school courses in social justice, world religions, and healthcare ethics, while earning my Master’s in Theological Studies/Ethics. Every day, I crafted lessons that opened minds and empowered students to think critically about the world around them, and my heart felt so full.
In those five vibrant years, I wasn’t just a teacher; I became the school’s go-to problem-solver and event marketer. I planned everything from retreats to community events, trained student leaders, directed the school yearbook, and even built bridges between students and local organizations to fuel real change. Every challenge was an opportunity to fuse creativity with intention, making sure everything I touched was both functional and beautiful. But as much as I cherished these experiences, the demands of teaching took their toll, and I realized it was time for a change. After stepping away and spending some time working at an independent bookstore, recharging and reflecting on what truly energized me, I stumbled upon UX/UI design through conversations with people who truly knew me. Suddenly, everything clicked.
UX/UI felt like the perfect blend of everything I loved: problem-solving, design, empathy, and accessibility. My experience as a teacher prepared me in ways I hadn’t expected. All those late nights designing slideshows to make complex topics digestible for teenagers taught me endurance and a deep understanding of user experience. From marketing campaigns to yearbook deadlines, I learned to create consistent, audience-focused designs that tell a story and deliver value. Now, as I dive deeper into the world of UX/UI design, I’m excited to keep honing my skills, always striving to make people’s lives a little easier, a little more joyful, and a lot more delightful with every design I create.
